How the Kiwanis Club of Brighton Impacts the Brighton Colorado Community...

The Kiwanis Club of Brighton sponsors several programs each year in support of our mission to help make Brighton a better community for our young people. From providing a platform for kids to showcase their artistic talents to helping kids in need during the holidays, from helping outstanding young people with entrepreneurial pursuits to working with kids to raise their scholastic performance, to advocating for predator awareness and safety education, our commitment to youth in our community is undeniable. These are our annual sponsored signature programs:

Stars of Tomorrow: A long-standing Kiwanis program, our club has been producing the annual talent competition since 1961, providing a platform for the youth in our community to showcase their talent. This event is held each April, and is open to all school-aged youth from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Bring Up Grades (BUGs): A signature Kiwanis International program, we work with students through the Boys & Girls Club Shopneck Branch in Brighton to help them bring up their grades and then recognize those who do raise them to an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next. Recognition includes being placed on the school's BUG Honor Roll, a food-themed party, and presentation of certificates, buttons and other giveaways.

Coat Drive: Each November, with the help of several businesses and organizations who host our collection boxes, we collect new and gently used kids coats, sweaters, gloves, and hats to provide to kids in need during the cold months.

Toy Drive: Each December, with help from our coat drive partners, we also collect new, unwrapped toys for distribution to children in our community who might not otherwise have a merry holiday.

Santa Claus Project: We give Santa a little help each year with gift distribution for a few families faced with financial challenges.

The Kiwanis Club of Brighton believes that a strong community is founded in a spirit of collaboration rather than duplication of services, so we also partner with several other community organizations and groups to co-sponsor or support their endeavors to help youth in our community.

Brighton Youth Commission S.P.E.A.K. Week: We provide an annual sponsorship and volunteers to assist this amazing group of youth leaders raise awareness and prevent teen suicide. For more information about the S.P.E.A.K. project, visit the BYC website.

School Supply Drive: We partner with Hands for Students to collect and provide much needed school supplies to kids from low-income families as they prepare to head back to school.

Back to School Shopping: Each August and September we partner with South Elementary School to help raise funds for back to school clothes shopping. Donations are made through our 501(c)3 foundation so they are tax deductible for contributors.

DECA Competition: Each year, in preparation for regional, state, and national competitions, the Brighton High School DECA students practice presenting their work to our members in order to receive constructive help in improving and refining their presentations. Additionally, we provide financial support towards their travel expenses.

CASA Golf Tournament: All work and no play makes for dull times, so we support CASA by participating in their annual golf tournament, and providing financial support for their program.

Dog Supply Drive: In 2013, we added this very worthwhile project to our list even though it doesn't directly help kids. For this one, we partner with Harmony Angels Foundation and Freedom Service Dogs to collect dog food, toys, blankets, treats, and other dog supplies to help in the effort to train service dogs for returning veterans in need of canine assistance.
